The Gyenes Lido Beach***** and the Diás Beach *****have earned the designation “eco-beach” in more ways than one. The municipality responsible for running the beaches has long been making a conscious effort to operate in an environmentally friendly way and to provide a close-to-nature experience. Below is a summary of the measures and characteristics that qualify our bathing areas as eco-beaches:

1. Environmentally concious operation

• Selective waste collection throughout the beaches.
• Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used
• Energy-saving and water-saving solutions for lighting and water supply are in place.
• Hot water for toilets is supplied by solar panels.
• Special attention is given to the preservation and expansion of green spaces.
• Rainwater harvesting and the creation of insect-proof flower beds have been implemented.
• Natural shading is provided by tree planting and solar sails.

2. Pro-nature approach and education

• Through the interactive panels of the Lido Barnd eco-trail in Gyenes, visitors can learn about the wildlife of Lake Balaton and the basics of environmental protection.
• Handicraft activities and nature education programmes for children are organised in a playful way to help raise environmental awareness.

3. Family-friendly, nature-friendly infrastructure

• The beach developments have sought to preserve the natural shoreline of Lido beach without overcrowding the area.
• The design of playgrounds and sports fields has favoured natural materials, such as playground elements with a wooden structure.

4. Certifications and awards

• The Diás Play Beach has been awarded the Blue Wave Flag several times, which assesses environmental sustainability in addition to water purity.
• The beaches are active participants in environmental programmes organised by the Balaton Association.
